It’s not until I looked up the tech sheet for the Perrier Chignin that I realized it measures in at only 11.5% alcohol by volume. I would have guess much higher, but not becuase it’s in any way hot or out of balance. The opposite is the case: this wine is very much in balance with rich fruit and lively acidity. It’s so lucs and enveloping, that I assumed the ripeness of the fruit would have come with more alcohol, and it was a lovely surprise to see the opposite.
Look for lemon and lime and a honeyed finish on this terrific wine from Alpine France. Look for good weight on the mid-palate and food friendly acidity. It’s a cliché, but the ultimate paitring for this wine might be cheese.
