This wine wants grilled steak. Or rather, grilled steak wants this wine. Grilled mushrooms also want this wine. The Sangiovese that makes this wine is grown at 400 meters above sea level, and expresses a fresh red fruit character with a lively acidity a touch of salinity. And then comes the Mediterranean scrub macchia herbal notes meet a leather finish that reminds its drinker that it comes from Italy.
If I wanted to show someone what a proper Chianti Classico tasted like, the Radda 2021 would be an ideal model. Not because it’s particularly typical, but because it shows what Sangiovese can do when light on its feet and agile over the palate. This wine is sophisticated and worth more than the sum of its parts and yet straight forward. The 2021 Radda warrants the cliché that it “wakes up your senses”. The message is received.
