The Baron Ricasoli, otherwise known as Francesco likes to remind wine journalists that his is one of the oldest family businesses in the world. That may be, but the spirit in the wines being released by the Ricasoli, not least this one named after their castle, is thoroughly modern and reflective of the 21st century risorgimento of wine making in the hills of the Chianti Classico DOCG. Fresh and bright, with dark cherry notes over Sangiovese’s characteristic broody earthiness, the 2019 Brolio is a crowd pleaser, made for the table.
