Telmo Rodriguez is one of a handful of legendary new wave producers in Rioja, with many projects across the region. But the LZ, from his Lanzaga estate, is a homage to old fashioned small scale peasant production from a hundred years ago, fermented in concrete tanks from organic grapes. Here is a surprisingly light and fresh versatile and easy drinking red with lively red to blue fruit and slightly spicy herbal note. Give it some air by opening at least half an hour before serving, or on a warm evening chill it very slightly to somewhere between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius.
