In this province, a 473 ml (16 oz) can of Black Cherry flavour White Claw Hard Seltzer costs $3.35. So, a six pack costs $20.10, which is just 70 cents less than a bottle of the Villadoria ‘Argo’ Langhe Nebbiolo 2020. À chacun sont goût, and the relative pleasures of spending the evening with a couple of cans of White Claw versus a few glasses of this absolutely quaffable baby Barolo might strike some as worthy of debate. Not me, the Villadoria Argo must be one of the best deals I have seen for a long time.

This wine is ready to drink right now, which might explain its under $30 pricing. Juicy and round, with cherry and raspberry notes, and a pleasing freshness. It’s a lovely way to remember that Nebbiolo does not have to be brooding, and can also be light and fun, with just a touch of fuit tannin to hold it all together. I’d have it with grilled meat or order in pizza; maybe right out of the box.
