Lean and lemony, this white burgundy is a classic from the renown and respective co-operative in Lugny, one of the better known of the eleven communes that make-up the Mâcon-Villages appellation. Cave de Lugny is a good example of the new wave co-operative movement taking place in 21st century Europe. At under $25 it’s a great value, at least comparatively, for Burgundian Chardonnay from a region whose reputation continues to rise.

The wine, from the single lieu dit of St. Pierre, is wonderfully complex for the price, with citrus and white flower notes and good acidity, but with enough weight to hold its own as an aperetif. A great way to start an evening or carry through into a light meal.
