The estate at Domaine Montrose may have been established 1701 but their Chardonnay is very much in style of the new South of France: gastronomique. The 2020 Domaine Montrose Chardonnay Côtes de Thonge IGP is a vin de terroir. Stainless steel elevated, it’s a racy, crisp white full of lemon and peach, with good weight by way of time on the lees. This wine wants food: appetizers before a meal (smoked salmon or oysters) or at a party (let’s hope we can still have a few in the next while). Or it will pair nicely with any seafood meal. It’s a sophisticated wine that’s a tremendous value and punches far above its weight.
