With the rehabilitation of Soave as a serious white wine has come the inevitable price increases. This, in turn, has fostered in me some scepticism towards any bottle of Soave I see for under $20. The 2023 Sereole Soave Classico has restored my faith that there is still perfectly delicious, affordable, every day Soave out there.
Look for lime citrus notes, and that faint floral character wine writers call “white flowers”, which might be orange blossom, jasmine or both. Look particularly for balance. The acid is certainly there, and that stony salty character of minerality, but it’s not biting and it’s setting down into sublte fruit. A wine that’s very easy to drink; a perfect way to begin a quiet weekend evening at home.
